the project
This old Victorian property was full of charm and character, but in need of major renovation to bring up to scratch to function as a future family home!
Creating a home that the family could grow into, the proposal sought to add a loft extension combined with ground floor rear + side extension.
We worked closely with the client, a self-builder, to produce a comprehensive set of drawings for Planning and Building Regulations Approvals which they could eventually build from.
The result - a timber frame construction consisting of an asymmetric-pitch to the rear and clad in charred black timber (Shou-Sugi-Ban). The existing red facing brick of the Victorian property contrasts beautifully against the charred black timber cladding of the extension.
The client approached us and asked us to maximise the
space of a Victorian terraced property situated in
East-London.
The renovation included the demolition of an existing
poorly built small rear extension and creation of a brand
new rear and side-infill extension, combined with loft
extension.
The end result is a striking open-plan kitchen & living
space looking out towards the rear garden. Strategically
placed skylights and large bifold doors allow for light to
permeate the space.
Intumescent paint is applied to exposed steel beams
creating a bold feature and giving the property it's unique
character.
